Rain Alert: Thunderstorms Set to Sweep Eastern and Central Nepal Today

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several regions of the country today, particularly affecting the eastern and central provinces.

Scattered Rain

According to the department, Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces are likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places, while one or two locations in the remaining provinces may also witness similar weather activity. This variation in weather patterns is attributed to the combined effects of westerly and local winds, primarily active in the western and central parts of the country. In contrast, monsoon winds are currently influencing most parts of Koshi Province.

As a result, the hilly regions of Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces will remain partly to generally cloudy throughout the day, while the rest of the country is expected to see mainly fair to partly cloudy skies.

For tonight, the weather across the country is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy. The DHM has again predicted the possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in a few areas of Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, with isolated chances of rainfall in other provinces as well.

The department has advised the public, especially those residing in hilly and mountainous areas, to stay alert for localized thunderstorms and possible temporary disruptions, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides or flash floods.

Travelers, trekkers, and tourists visiting these provinces are also advised to check local weather updates and take necessary precautions. For continuous weather updates, the public is encouraged to visit the official website of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology or follow its alerts through local media.
