Untapped Treasure: Sekong Lake in Mustang Beckons Conservation Amid Tourism Boom

The Sekong Lake, which was created by meltwater from the Dhaulagiri Himal and is only a 15-minute walk from the Beni–Jomsom road, is still ignored because the relevant authorities have not given it enough attention or promoted it.

According to Gautam Sherchan, the chairperson of the local ward, the water level has dropped dramatically from prior years. Road access is still inadequate, and conservation efforts are insufficient, despite the development of some infrastructure, such as walkways, rest areas, and basic amenities, with assistance from ACAP and the Tourism Department.

Locals perform rituals of nature worship during natural disasters, demonstrating the lake’s religious and natural significance. Numerous bird species, musk deer, and snow leopards are among the varied wildlife that calls the area home. To increase tourism in the area, local leaders emphasize the value of promotion and preservation.
