Three brothers from Nepal’s most celebrated climbing family, Mingma Sherpa, Chhang Dawa Sherpa, and Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, have received a Guinness World Records certificate for becoming the most siblings to complete the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the world’s seven continents.
“The most siblings to climb the Seven Summits are three, by brothers Mingma Sherpa, Chhang Dawa Sherpa, and Tashi Lakpa Sherpa (all from Nepal). The challenge was completed on 20 October 2024, when all three climbed Puncak Jaya/Carstensz.”

Historic Achievement in Mountaineering
The record underscores the brothers’ extraordinary mountaineering legacy, setting a new milestone for sibling climbers worldwide. Completing the Seven Summits involves scaling the tallest mountain on each continent, a challenge that tests endurance, skill, and mental resilience.
This achievement adds to an already remarkable collection of world records held by the Sherpa trio. Mingma and Chhang Dawa previously set the Guinness record as the world’s first siblings to climb all 14 eight-thousanders. Tashi Lakpa, renowned as one of the Himalayas’ most experienced expedition leaders, holds the Guinness record for summiting Mount Everest at the age of 20 without supplemental oxygen.
Contributions to High-Altitude Expeditions
Beyond their personal climbing feats, the brothers have significantly impacted the global mountaineering community. Chhang Dawa Sherpa served as the expedition leader for Polish alpinist Andrzej Bargiel’s historic autumn ski descent from Everest’s summit on September 22, accomplished without supplemental oxygen, a feat widely regarded as groundbreaking in high-altitude climbing.

Mingma Sherpa, serving as Chairman of Seven Summit Treks, Nepal’s largest expedition operator, has employed hundreds of Nepali youth and facilitated thousands of international climbers and trekkers visiting Nepal annually. The brothers collectively operate Seven Summit Treks, headquartered in Kathmandu, offering world-class expedition services and strengthening Nepal’s global mountaineering reputation.
Elevating Nepal’s Mountaineering Legacy
The Guinness recognition not only honors the brothers’ personal accomplishments but also highlights their role in promoting Nepal as a hub for high-altitude expeditions. Their achievements inspire a new generation of climbers and showcase the skills, resilience, and dedication of Nepali mountaineers on the international stage.
Speaking on the achievement, mountaineering experts lauded the Sherpa brothers for combining athletic excellence with leadership in expedition management, noting that their work has significantly contributed to the safety, training, and opportunities available to climbers from Nepal and around the world.

A Family of Record-Breakers
From climbing all 14 eight-thousanders to pioneering high-altitude expeditions without supplemental oxygen, the Sherpa brothers’ accomplishments continue to push the boundaries of mountaineering. Their latest Guinness World Record for being the most siblings to complete the Seven Summits cements their status as legends in the global climbing community.
The recognition reinforces Nepal’s image as a premier destination for adventure tourism and high-altitude mountaineering, highlighting the dedication, expertise, and global influence of Nepali climbers. With their exceptional achievements, Mingma, Chhang Dawa, and Tashi Lakpa Sherpa have not only set new records but also advanced Nepal’s mountaineering legacy, inspiring climbers worldwide to aim for the peaks, both literally and metaphorically.
