Sichuan Airlines is set to operate its second international chartered flight to Pokhara International Airport, bringing in 134 passengers from Kunming, China. This marks a significant moment for Pokhara, as it welcomes Chinese athletes, officials, and spectators arriving to participate in the third edition of the Pokhara International Mountain Cross Country Race on November 9, aimed at strengthening tourism and friendship between Nepal and China.
Scheduled to land at 2:40 PM on Thursday, the Airbus 319 will depart empty for Kathmandu at 4:10 PM, according to Pokhara Airport’s spokesperson, Jasoda Subedi. The flight, organized specifically to support the race event, reflects the growing international interest in Pokhara’s scenic and cultural offerings.
Previously, Sichuan Airlines made history by completing the first international chartered flight to Pokhara on June 21, 2023, shortly after the airport’s opening. That inaugural flight brought a Chinese delegation for the Nepal-China Friendship Dragon Boat Race held at Fewa Lake, the first of its kind in South Asia. To date, Pokhara International Airport has hosted five chartered and one commercial international flight since its inauguration, highlighting the airport’s expanding role in Nepal’s tourism and international sports events.
