During the Ashwin month of the grand Dashain festival, the Baglung Kalika Temple received an impressive sum of NPR 4.5 million in offerings. According to the Baglung Kalika Bhagawati Guthi Management Committee, a total of NPR 4,527,000 was collected through donations and other income sources throughout the month of Ashwin.
Dashain, both the grand Dashain and Chaitra Dashain, is known to be the peak time for donations at the Kalika Temple. Guthi Chairman Kumar Khadka stated that about 60% of the annual offerings are received during Dashain alone.
The temple raised NPR 2.28 million through offerings, NPR 1.13 million from the sale of pigeons, NPR 385,000 from rental income, and NPR 404,000 from goat sacrifices. Additionally, NPR 96,000 was earned from rice sales, NPR 30,008 from chicken sacrifices, NPR 18,400 from buffalo sacrifices, NPR 10,500 from marriage fees, and NPR 147,871 from financial contributions. Other revenues included NPR 16,400 from priests’ services and NPR 300 from sacred thread rituals (Bratabandha).
On the expenditure side, the committee reported spending NPR 1.39 million in Ashwin. The expenses covered salaries, infrastructure development, staff benefits, and utility costs such as water and electricity.
The number of visitors to the Kalika Temple saw a substantial increase during the festival. According to Guthi’s statistics, around 400,000 devotees visited the temple during Dashain alone. In comparison, last year’s Chaitra Dashain also saw significant offerings, amounting to NPR 4 million.
This trend highlights the temple’s cultural and religious importance, especially during the festive periods, attracting a large number of devotees and significant donations.
