Significant Road Development Completed on Kaligandaki Corridor

A landmark development has been achieved under the National Pride Project with the blacktopping of a 13-kilometer stretch of road from the district headquarters of Jomsom to the center of Mukti Chhetra Rural Municipality in Kagbeni.

The Jomsom-Kagbeni road has been widened to 11 meters and paved using the Axpalat technology. The project to blacktop this segment was contracted for NPR 281.4 million under the Benighat-Jomsom-Korala Road Project.

According to Bishnu Chapagai, the information officer for the Benighat-Jomsom-Korala Road Project, the blacktopping work has been completed, and the installation of road furniture is now in the final stages. An additional 2 kilometers of road from Kagbeni towards Korala and 1 kilometer of an alternate road connecting Eklebhatty to Kagbeni have also been blacktopped.

This corridor, which connects Jomsom to the Korala border point with the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China, has been divided into eight sections with a total length of 110 kilometers. Currently, 75 kilometers of road widening and gravel work have been completed.

In the 25-kilometer section from Charang to Chhose, 92 percent of the construction has been completed. Dhruvkumar Jha, the project chief, stated that upon completion of the upgrade in this section, the road from Jomsom to Korala will be fully paved, significantly improving connectivity and accessibility in the region.
