Six Rhinos Found Dead in Chitwan National Park Over Three Months

Chitwan National Park has reported the deaths of six rhinos over the past three months, with the casualties identified since the month of Shrawan.

According to park officials, one rhino was electrocuted, while two others died from unspecified causes. Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the park’s information officer, noted that during the fiscal year 2080/81, a total of 21 rhinos were reported dead. Of these, 18 rhinos died due to natural causes, two were victims of poaching, and the cause of death for one remains unknown.

Recent estimates indicate that the population of one-horned rhinos in Nepal stands at 752, with Chitwan National Park alone housing 694 of these magnificent creatures. The conservation community remains vigilant in its efforts to protect this endangered species amidst ongoing threats.
