Under the call of Lekhnath Newa Khala, the Tayamcha Dance Competition organized by Gagan Newa Khala concluded with Society Welfare Newa Khala, Pokhara-32, Rajako Chautara securing the first position. The competition took place on Saturday, with Shisuwa Newa Khala, Pokhara-30, earning the second position, Rupa Deurali Newa Khala taking third place, and Milijuli Newa Khala, Pokhara-33, Bagmara, receiving the consolation prize.
The winners were awarded cash prizes along with certificates. The first, second, third, and consolation winners received NPR 40,000, NPR 30,000, NPR 20,000, and NPR 10,000, respectively. In addition, Bhimsen Newa Khala’s Samriddhi Shrestha from Pokhara was honored for the best fairy dance, while Society Welfare Newa Khala, Pokhara-32, Rajako Chautara, received recognition for the best costume. Rupa Deurali Newa Khala’s Sonisha Shrestha was awarded for the best joker performance. A total of nine groups participated in the competition.
The event aimed to preserve the historical and cultural significance of the Tayamcha dance, as noted by Lila Bahadur Shrestha, President of Gagan Newa Khala. During the inauguration, Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, emphasized the importance of passing down ancient traditions and cultures to future generations.
Also present were Ashok Palikhe, President of Newa Khala Kaski, Akkal Bahadur Karki, Ward Chair of Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 32, and Gagan Newa Khala Secretary Sharan Kumar Pradhan, among others, who shared their views on the cultural importance and preservation of the Tayamcha dance.
