Solukhumbu Flood Relief Efforts Recognized: 13 Police Officers Awarded

Thirteen Nepal Police officers who played a crucial role in the rescue operations following the flood in Thame, Solukhumbu, have been honored for their exceptional service. The awards were presented by the District Police Office, Solukhumbu, in recognition of their active involvement in rescuing citizens and protecting physical assets during the flood on Shrawan 26.

The officers honored include Inspector Laxman Giri, Assistant Inspector Khemraj Khatiwada, and Senior Constable Deepak Kumar Katwal, among others. According to District Police Chief DSP Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, the awards were given to one inspector, two assistant inspectors, one senior constable, three constables, two assistant constables, and four police personnel.

DSP Ghimire explained that the awards were given in acknowledgment of the officers’ dedication to mitigating damage during natural disasters in the high Himalayan region. “Their efficient work in rescue operations, risk reduction, information dissemination, and raising awareness in lower coastal areas warranted this recognition,” he added.

Inspector Giri expressed that receiving the award has significantly boosted their morale and motivated them to continue serving the nation with greater enthusiasm.

The flood, which occurred at around 1:30 PM on Shrawan 32, caused significant damage in Thame, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality-5. The natural disaster, triggered by a glacial lake outburst, destroyed one school, one health post, two hotels, thirteen houses completely, and ten houses partially. Additionally, a 950-kilowatt hydropower project sustained damage. The burst glacial lake is located approximately nine kilometers from the Thame market.
