Special Medical Team Deployed at Gosainkunda for Janai Purnima Festival

A team of specialized doctors has been dispatched to the renowned religious site of Gosainkunda in Rasuwa to provide medical care for pilgrims attending the Janai Purnima festival. This initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Bagmati Province and the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) Kathmandu.

The medical team, consisting of eight members led by Dr. Sushant Humagain, includes Dr. Anzeela Thapa, Dr. Sabitra Thapa, Dr. Surya Prakash Joshi, Dr. Reshika Shrestha, medical student Jagat Bhatta, post assistant Prakash Khatri, and HRA representative Shriram Khatri. The team will serve at Gosainkunda for 10 days, providing medical support to pilgrims who may experience altitude sickness or other health issues.

According to Govinda Basyal, Chief Executive Officer of the HRA, the team will offer health services both along the trekking routes and at Gosainkunda during the festival period, from Ekadashi to Purnima. The association has been providing free medical services at Gosainkunda since 1997, as noted by HRA President Dambar Parajuli.

The HRA will offer free medicines and health care services to the pilgrims. Located at an altitude of 4,380 meters above sea level, Gosainkunda hosts a major fair from Ekadashi to Bhadra Shukla Purnima. Thousands of devotees from Nepal and abroad visit the sacred site during this period. The Gosainkunda fair is held twice annually, during Ganga Dashahara and Janai Purnima.

This year’s deployment of medical professionals aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the many visitors drawn to this spiritually significant and challenging high-altitude pilgrimage.
