The Government of Nepal has officially recognized the importance of the hospitality sector by classifying star-rated hotels and eco-resorts as a National Priority Industry through an amendment to the Industrial Enterprises Act, 2076. This recognition aims to facilitate the growth, expansion, and decentralization of hotels, enhancing their competitiveness and promoting sustainable development within the industry.

Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has welcomed this amendment, emphasizing its significance in strengthening Nepal’s hospitality sector. By granting National Priority Industry status, the government has demonstrated its commitment to supporting industries that play a crucial role in national economic growth. At the 49th Annual General Meeting of HAN, held on January 15, 2025, at The Soaltee Kathmandu, the association, under the leadership of President Mr. Binayak Shah, unanimously passed a special motion expressing gratitude to the government for this initiative.

As per the amendment, star-rated hotels and eco-resorts are now eligible for land leasing provisions under Clause 31 of the Industrial Enterprise Act, 2075, and Industrial Enterprise Rule, 2078. Additionally, the Government of Nepal, on the recommendation of the Industry and Investment Promotion Board, may provide further facilities and concessions through an official notification in the Nepal Gazette. These benefits will help attract more investment and ensure long-term growth in Nepal’s tourism and hospitality sector.
