Strengthening Nepal-India Tourism: NTB CEO & Ambassador Strategize Growth

Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), met with His Excellency Dr. Shankar Sharma, the Ambassador of Nepal to India, along with embassy officials, to discuss an upcoming tourism promotion program in India.

The meeting focused on several key areas, with Dr. Sharma offering valuable insights on improving customs facilities and prioritizing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, especially in the realm of destination weddings. They also explored ways to enhance cross-border tourism between Nepal and India.

Mr. Joshi emphasized the importance of strengthening tourism ties between Nepal and India. He expressed confidence that, through collaborative efforts, Nepal could become a preferred destination for Indian travelers. He highlighted the immense potential of the Indian market and stated that NTB is committed to implementing targeted strategies to attract more visitors.

Dr. Sharma reaffirmed India’s significance as one of Nepal’s primary tourism markets and stressed that improving accessibility and promoting niche segments like MICE and destination weddings could greatly enhance tourist arrivals and economic growth for both countries.

To further its tourism promotion initiatives, the NTB delegation will actively participate in SATTE 2025, India’s largest travel and tourism fair. SATTE 2025 is expected to attract over 35,000 visitors and 1,400 exhibitors, providing an ideal platform for Nepal to showcase its diverse tourism offerings to key stakeholders in the Indian travel market.

NTB looks forward to collaborating closely with the Embassy of Nepal in India to elevate Nepal’s visibility in the Indian tourism market and create new opportunities for sustainable tourism development.
