Sunsari Triumphs in 3rd National Majhi Boat Race Competition

Sunsari district claimed victory in the 3rd National Majhi Boat Race Competition, held at Seleghat, Manthali Municipality, Ramechhap. The event showcased impressive performances from participants across five districts: Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Dolakha, Sunsari, and Okhaldhunga.

In the single category, Chandra Majhi and Jivan Majhi from Sunsari secured the first position, completing the race across the Sunkoshi River in 3 minutes and 3 seconds. Following closely, Kamal Majhi and Kushal Majhi from Okhaldhunga took second place with a time of 3 minutes and 12 seconds. Sunil Majhi and Urbe Majhi from Masantar, Ramechhap, finished third, crossing the river in 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Peshal Majhi and Dille Majhi finished in fourth place.

In the double category, Sunsari emerged victorious again, finishing the race in 2 minutes and 44 seconds. Ramechhap secured second place, Okhaldhunga came in third, and Sunsari ‘A’ finished fourth.

The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates for their outstanding performances. Event coordinator Nawaraj Majhi reported that 26 individuals participated in the single category, while 29 groups competed in the double category.

The National Sports Council’s recognition of boat racing as a sport has provided significant encouragement to local boat entrepreneurs and sailors. The competition was inaugurated by Rama Ale, the Minister of Sports from Bagmati Province, who praised the event’s organization and the participants’ enthusiasm.

This annual event continues to foster community spirit and highlight the skill and determination of the Majhi boat racers.
