The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order to the government, demanding a written response regarding the appointment of Deepak Raj Joshi as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
A single bench of Justice Kumar Chundal issued the order on Thursday, directing the government to submit its response within 15 days. This order follows a writ petition filed by Dhananjaya Regmi, another candidate for the CEO position, who challenged Joshi’s appointment.
Regmi, in his petition filed on Tuesday, argued that Joshi’s appointment was made using discretionary powers, disregarding the results of the selection process. He called for the annulment of the NTB Board’s decision and requested that he be appointed to the position instead.
The NTB Board of Directors had decided to appoint Joshi as CEO during a meeting last Thursday. Despite the legal challenge, Joshi has already assumed his duties as CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board.
The court’s decision could impact the leadership of NTB as it awaits further developments in the case.
