Suspension Bridge in Tulsipur Gains Popularity as a Tourist Attraction

With the Babai River flowing below and lush greenery surrounding the area, the picturesque suspension bridge connecting Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-11 and Dangisharan Rural Municipality-2 at Saruwadanda has become a major attraction. The serene setting, nearby Motipur village, and the bridge itself offer an irresistible charm to visitors, drawing people from afar, especially during the recent Dashain and Tihar festivals, locals report.

This year, the bridge has become a prime destination for people returning home for the festivities. The setting sun casting shadows over the Babai River and the bridge adds to its allure, attracting visitors who capture the scenery in photos, and creating cherished memories.

Nicknamed the “viral bridge” on social media, this spot has garnered attention beyond locals, with people from Salyan, Rukum, and other districts visiting for photography and sightseeing. Sharda KC from Salyan shared that she felt compelled to visit after seeing photos and videos on social media. “We came here after seeing it online, and it’s truly beautiful. Developing this site with additional tourism facilities would enhance its appeal,” she said, expressing hope for amenities such as cafes, rest areas, and public toilets for visitor convenience.

Though constructed in 2022, the bridge’s popularity soared this year, according to 55-year-old Mohani Lamichhane of Tulsipur-11. “The prolonged drought and intense heat led people from the city to visit here, spreading awareness. After going viral on social media, this place has quickly become a sought-after tourist area,” she explained. During April and May, daily visitor numbers sometimes exceeded 1,500.

Built for NPR 30 million, the 400-meter-long bridge has made transportation much safer and easier for locals who previously had to navigate the Babai River. Resident Karbir Chaudhary mentioned that the bridge has not only improved access to Tulsipur but is also evolving as a recreation spot for people from distant areas. He suggested that the local government take steps to develop this site into a tourist center.

Ward Chair of Tulsipur-11, Man Bahadur Rawat, shared that plans are underway to develop essential infrastructure to promote the area as a tourism hub. Following consultations with residents, a master plan is being prepared to guide the development process. “We recently gathered suggestions from locals and stakeholders, and discussions have included building a rubber dam on the Babai River for boating activities. Plans for a children’s park and infrastructure in the nearby Moti Community Forest are also being considered,” he said. Budget proposals will be submitted to the Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Lumbini Provincial Government, and the federal government. “With everyone’s support, this can become a tourism hub,” Rawat added.

The suspension bridge is located approximately 12 kilometers southwest of Tulsipur Bazaar, offering a scenic retreat close to the town and quickly gaining recognition as a must-visit destination in Dang.
