Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) Wins PATA Gold Award for the Third Consecutive Year

The Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP), a collaborative initiative between the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal, has been honored with the prestigious PATA Gold Award 2024 in the “Community-Based Tourism – Sustainability and Social Responsibility” category. This marks the third consecutive year that the STLRP has been recognized with this esteemed award, highlighting its ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism and community empowerment.

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award is a highly respected accolade in the global tourism industry, celebrating exceptional achievements in various categories including marketing, sustainability, and social responsibility. The STLRP’s continued recognition in the “Community-Based Tourism – Sustainability and Social Responsibility” category underscores the project’s significant impact on promoting sustainable tourism practices that benefit local communities in Nepal.

The STLRP was launched as a response to the challenges faced by Nepal’s tourism sector, particularly in the wake of natural disasters and the global pandemic. The project aims to revitalize the livelihoods of those dependent on tourism by promoting sustainable and community-focused tourism practices. It has successfully engaged local communities, tourism stakeholders, and various partners in creating a resilient and sustainable tourism model that prioritizes environmental conservation and social responsibility.

Expressing gratitude for the award, the Nepal Tourism Board and UNDP Nepal extended their heartfelt thanks to PATA, the dedicated STLRP team, private sector tourism stakeholders, project partners, and supporters whose collective efforts have made this achievement possible.

The recognition by PATA not only highlights the success of the STLRP but also serves as a testament to Nepal’s growing reputation as a leader in sustainable tourism practices. As the project continues to thrive, it is expected to further strengthen Nepal’s tourism sector by fostering community involvement, preserving cultural heritage, and ensuring environmental sustainability.
