Taplejung’s Sirijangha Rural Municipality Launches ‘Pride of Kanchenjunga’ Campaign

Sirijangha Rural Municipality in Taplejung has announced the launch of the ‘Pride of Kanchenjunga’ campaign to promote itself globally. This initiative was highlighted in the municipality’s policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2081/082, presented last week. Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world, is located on the border between Sirijangha and Faktanglung Rural Municipalities.

The campaign aims to establish Sirijangha as a premier tourist destination. To achieve this, Sirijangha Rural Municipality has designated the adventure trail from Amji Khola in Yamphudin, Sirijangha-7, to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp as a flagship project. This trail will be developed in partnership with the federal government.

Vice President of Sirijangha Rural Municipality, Dr. Chitra Mabo, stated that the trail spans approximately 22 kilometers. Last fiscal year, the Ministry of Tourism allocated a budget of NPR 50 million for the construction of this trail, which is currently underway. The municipality plans to expand the campaign to attract more tourists. To support this initiative, the policy and program include a budget allocation for operating homestays along the trail. This will enhance the accommodation options for tourists and further promote the area’s tourism potential.
