In a significant move to bolster local infrastructure and improve public service operations, Taragaon Regency Hotels Limited has donated four 2,000-liter water tanks along with sturdy support stands to the Boudha Police Circle in Kathmandu. This vital contribution, made as part of the hotel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, directly addresses the police unit’s long-standing challenge of securing clean and reliable drinking water.
Tackling a Persistent Problem
For years, the Boudha Police Circle had struggled with water scarcity and hygiene issues due to an outdated and poorly maintained water tank system. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jayashwor Rimal, who heads the Boudha Police Circle, the previous tank was not only structurally unsound but also unsanitary.
“The old tank was sitting on unstable bricks without a proper stand, and we were forced to rely on boring water, which was neither clean nor sustainable,” said DSP Rimal. “This new setup provided by Taragaon Regency Hotels has transformed our water access. The installation of high-capacity tanks with professional stands ensures safer and more efficient storage of clean drinking water.”
Installation and Handover Ceremony
The newly installed tanks were formally handed over by Rani Bang, Corporate President of Taragaon Regency Hotels, during a small handover ceremony attended by hotel and police representatives. The request for the tanks was initiated by the police department, and the hotel responded swiftly, acknowledging the crucial role that hydration and hygiene play in public service institutions like the police force.
Gopalmani Bhandari, the hotel’s Public Relations Director, confirmed the installation and emphasized the company’s continued commitment to uplifting public institutions. “This is not our first contribution to the Boudha Police Circle,” Bhandari shared. “We have previously supported the department with CCTV cameras and other critical equipment to improve security and surveillance in the area.”
A Symbol of Partnership and Responsibility
Taragaon Regency Hotels, which operates the prestigious five-star Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, has long been involved in community development and public welfare initiatives. Situated near the iconic Boudhanath Stupa, the hotel has always placed a high value on social impact. The Taragaon Cultural Centre, also managed by the hotel group, serves as a beacon of Nepali art, history, and architecture, reinforcing the organization’s dedication to both culture and community.
This water tank initiative reflects not just a one-time donation but a deep-rooted philosophy of corporate citizenship, where businesses actively collaborate with public institutions to create sustainable and meaningful change. The donation is also timely, especially as Kathmandu grapples with water shortages and unreliable supply in several neighborhoods.
Supporting Law Enforcement Infrastructure
The Boudha Police Circle serves as a critical law enforcement hub in one of Kathmandu’s busiest and most culturally significant areas. The availability of basic facilities like clean water significantly impacts the productivity, health, and morale of the officers and staff stationed there.
“This kind of corporate support goes a long way,” added DSP Rimal. “Our officers now have better access to drinking water throughout the day, and this contributes to a healthier, more functional working environment.”
The donation also sets a precedent for other businesses in the region, showing how public-private partnerships can successfully address even the most basic yet essential needs in society.
Long-Term Community Commitment
This initiative is one among several that Taragaon Regency Hotels has taken under its CSR strategy, which emphasizes health, education, security, and cultural preservation. By offering both tangible resources and symbolic support, the hotel continues to engage with stakeholders beyond its commercial operations.
Company representatives also noted that more projects are in the pipeline, focused on enhancing local infrastructure and extending assistance to other key public institutions in need. These efforts align with the global Hyatt brand’s value system, which encourages local community upliftment as part of its corporate mission.
The installation of water tanks at the Boudha Police Circle is more than a simple infrastructure upgrade, it is a testament to meaningful collaboration between business and society. Through this act, Taragaon Regency Hotels has reinforced its position not just as a leader in Nepal’s hospitality sector but also as a champion of community welfare.
As water scarcity and infrastructure deficits remain challenges across the Kathmandu Valley, such partnerships serve as models for how corporate entities can lead positive social change through responsible action and mutual cooperation.
