Tarigaun Airport Fuel Depot Struggles Amid Irregular Flight Schedule

The lack of regular flight operations at Tarigaun Airport in Dang district has created operational challenges for the aviation fuel depot established by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), as inconsistent air services continue to reduce fuel demand. According to officials of Tarigaun Airport, the fuel depot has struggled to operate efficiently due to the irregular arrival of aircraft, resulting in significantly lower fuel sales in recent months.

Fuel Sales Decline Sharply in Recent Months

According to Kailash Devkota, Accounts Officer at the depot, only 1,000 litres of aviation fuel were sold in Baishakh, followed by 660 litres in Jestha, while 834 litres had been sold during Ashadh up to the latest reporting date. Although the depot sold 34,034 litres of aviation fuel during the current fiscal year, compared to 17,909 litres in the previous fiscal year 2081/82 BS, officials said recent monthly sales remain too low to ensure smooth and sustainable operations. The depot’s average monthly fuel sales currently stand at approximately 2,846 litres.

Irregular Flight Schedule of Tarigaun Airport Hampers Revenue

Devkota said that regular commercial flight operations would significantly increase aviation fuel consumption and improve the depot’s revenue. “Although airlines announce plans to operate flights four days a week, aircraft often arrive only twice a week, and in some weeks there are no flights at all,” he said. The inconsistent flight schedule has made it difficult for the depot to maintain stable operations and maximize its business potential.

Calls for Regular Air Connectivity

Officials believe that restoring reliable and frequent air services at Tarigaun Airport would not only improve the financial viability of the fuel depot but also enhance transportation connectivity for residents and businesses in the region. The current price of aviation fuel at the depot is Rs 269 per litre, according to the Nepal Oil Corporation. Stakeholders have urged airlines and concerned authorities to ensure regular flight operations, emphasizing that consistent air connectivity is essential for strengthening regional transportation, supporting economic activities, and improving the sustainability of airport-related services in Dang district.
