Fearless Feat: Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa Aims for Everest Record with 4 Climbs in 20 Days

Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa is set to attempt an unprecedented FOUR Everest ascents in 20 days to spotlight the vital role of Sherpas in global mountaineering support and share his historic challenge. During the 72 years of Mount Everest’s ascent, competition, rivalry, and records have been increasing. Climbing Everest itself is a risky and sensitive journey, and some climbers must risk their lives during the ascent. Despite the dangers, new records are continuously being set on Everest.

From Kami Rita Sherpa, who set a world record by climbing Everest 30 times, to photojournalist Purnima Shrestha, who set a record by climbing Everest three times in one season, and Hari Bahadur Budha, who lost both his legs but set records, there are many such record-makers. The late Angrita Sherpa, known by the nickname “Snow Leopard,” set a world record by climbing Everest 10 times without supplemental oxygen. Some climbers have set new “records” by climbing Everest in the shortest time or at a young age, while others have established records by climbing without oxygen.

In this context, Everest climber Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa has embarked on an expedition to climb Everest four times in 20 days to set a new world record. “My goal is to set a world record by climbing Everest four times within 20 days,” he said. Tashi, who began climbing in 2017, has already ascended Everest four times. He has also climbed Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and China’s Shishapangma.

28-year-old Tashi, from Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality-4 in Solukhumbu, initially climbed Everest and later ascended Ama Dablam. His father had previously climbed Everest, and it was his father’s inspiration that motivated him to set new records. Dawa Phunjo Sherpa had set a record by climbing Everest three times in eight days. Tashi, aiming to set a new Everest record through the Atke Expedition Company, shared that he has worked as a professional guide with Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peak Company. His family includes his father, wife, one son, and one daughter. Tashi has successfully climbed Everest four times.

He mentioned that he is on an expedition to break senior climbers’ records and set a new one. World-renowned record-setting Sherpas, such as Tenzing Norgay, Appa Sherpa, Babu Chiri, and Kami Rita, have made Nepal famous globally.

He also shared that, like them, his goal is to set a record on Everest. Tashi expressed confidence that after setting the Everest record, he would focus on attracting more international tourists to Nepal. During his Everest expedition, Tashi shared that he has helped citizens from countries like India, China, and the United States reach the summit. He also plans to climb the highest mountains across the seven continents in the future.
