A special program was organized today by the Tourist Bus Association of Nepal (TBAN) in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) to officially launch a study visit to Rara. The purpose of the visit is to evaluate the feasibility of operating direct tourist bus services from Kathmandu to the remote yet captivating destination of Rara Lake.
The journey was ceremonially flagged off by Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer, Senior Director of NTB, during a send-off event that gathered tourism stakeholders and well-wishers. The TBAN team, comprising transportation experts and tourism representatives, will assess various factors such as road conditions, travel duration, rest stops, accommodation facilities, and the overall service infrastructure along the route.

This feasibility study aims to lay the groundwork for future regular tourist bus operations that could significantly benefit the Karnali region, one of Nepal’s least-connected yet naturally rich areas. Rara Lake, known for its serene beauty and alpine surroundings, remains under-visited due to transportation limitations.

TBAN
According to TBAN, establishing a direct tourist bus route to Rara will not only improve accessibility for domestic and international travelers but also foster inclusive economic growth in the region. Enhanced connectivity is expected to increase tourist arrivals, support local businesses, and strengthen the visibility of Rara as a key destination on Nepal’s tourism map.
The Nepal Tourism Board reiterated its dedication to expanding tourism infrastructure across underrepresented destinations. Through such public-private collaborations, NTB aims to promote equitable tourism development nationwide.
