Third Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Race Set to Promote Tourism

The third Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Race, aimed at promoting tourism, is scheduled to take place on November 9. The Himalayan Tourism Forum announced the event during a press conference, revealing details about the upcoming race organized under the theme “Run for Common Prosperity.”

Athletes from Nepal and neighboring China will participate in the event, which is expected to promote tourism and support the operation of Pokhara International Airport, while also strengthening Nepal-China relations.

According to the schedule, athletes will arrive on November 7, followed by registration and distribution of materials on November 8. The official race will kick off on November 9.

Pratik Raj Pahari, Media Coordinator of the Himalayan Tourism Forum, mentioned that a special charter flight will be arranged from Kunming, China, to Pokhara on November 7 for the Chinese athletes. The competition will feature 90 athletes in mixed teams of 30, with 10 teams from China and 20 from Nepal. Participants will compete in a 50-kilometer race that involves trail running, cycling, and rowing, covering an elevation gain of 2,258 meters. The registration fee for foreign nationals is set at NPR 22,920 per team.

Additionally, around 200 athletes, including 80 Chinese and 120 Nepali participants, will compete in the individual challenge category, tackling a 50-kilometer trail with a total elevation gain of 2,366 meters. The registration fee for individual foreign athletes is set at NPR 9,550.

The student race will feature 500 participants running a five-kilometer course, while the Happy Run category will see another 500 athletes compete in a two-kilometer race.

The top five teams in the mixed team category will receive cash prizes, medals, and certificates. The first-place team will win NPR 458,400, the second-place team will receive NPR 343,800, the third-place team will get NPR 229,200, the fourth-place team will be awarded NPR 152,800, and the fifth-place team will receive NPR 95,500.

This international event is being organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Nepal Tourism Board, the Gandaki Province government, Pokhara Metropolitan City, and the Himalayan Tourism Forum to ensure its success.
