Tismure Chaur Transformed into Buddha Park: A New Tourist Attraction in Rampur

The once-neglected and overgrown Tismure Chaur in Rampur Municipality-6 has been transformed into a vibrant tourist destination known as Buddha Park. This remarkable transformation, driven by local efforts, has turned the area from a barren land covered with shrubs into a scenic tourist hub that few could have imagined just three years ago.

Visitors are now captivated by the beauty of Buddha Park, where a large Buddha statue stands as the centerpiece. The area has gained widespread recognition as a tourist destination, thanks to active local development initiatives. The transformation began when the Rampur-6 ward office launched a program to protect and manage public lands, resulting in the conversion of Tismure Chaur into Buddha Park.

Buddha Park has quickly become a popular attraction for both domestic and international tourists. Surrounded by well-maintained roads, the park’s stunning scenery attracts passersby. Inside the park, several facilities have been established, including the giant Buddha statue, a well-structured boundary, a new entrance gate, and an open-air gym. The gym, in particular, has proven to be a hit with visitors, who regularly use it for morning and evening exercise.

The development process began in the fiscal year 2077/78 when the ward office allocated land for the park and paved surrounding roads. In the fiscal year 2078/79, a budget of NPR 250,000 was used to install the Buddha statue, marking the start of tourism infrastructure development. The provincial government later provided financial assistance to level the park’s uneven terrain. Additionally, two waiting sheds were constructed with the help of local cooperatives and philanthropist Ram Prasad Lamsal.

The park’s appeal was further enhanced when Rampur Municipality announced the creation of a new flower route connecting Kaliamp, Vijaypur, Buddha Park, Talpokhara, and Tilakpur, where ornamental plants were planted to beautify the area. In the last fiscal year, the Lumbini Provincial Tourism Division Office allocated a budget of NPR 1 million for further improvements, including fencing, pathways, and a rest area for senior citizens. The open-air gym was built with a budget of NPR 300,000 from the ward office.

Buddha Park now covers approximately 13 ropani (about 1.6 hectares) of managed land. According to Dharma Raj Dhakal, the chairman of the Buddha Park Construction Committee, plans are underway to plant mango trees next year and develop the area into a children’s park. Amla (Indian gooseberry) trees have already been planted to enhance the park’s greenery.

The ward office remains committed to making the best use of open spaces for tourism and religious purposes, said Diwakar Devkota, the Ward Chair of Rampur-6. Buddha Park has become a destination for locals who come to exercise, visit the Buddha statue, stroll around, take photos, shoot videos, and create TikTok content. Its clean and open environment has also made it a favorite spot for relaxation and social gatherings.

Rampur Municipality is dedicated to promoting tourism and religious sites by building essential infrastructure, according to Mayor Raman Bahadur Thapa. He highlighted the effective use of public land for tourist and religious structures. “We are developing Rampur as a hub for religious and tourism activities,” said Mayor Thapa. “The municipality and ward offices are working together to create the necessary infrastructure based on the region’s geographical advantages.”

With these developments, Buddha Park is on its way to becoming a major tourist attraction, contributing significantly to the local economy and tourism growth in the area.
