Vehicular movement on the Gokuleshwar-Khalanga section of the Mahakali Highway has come to a standstill following a dry landslide at Melkhet Dhamigada in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-8 earlier this morning. The landslide has deposited debris across multiple locations on the road, effectively blocking the route and leaving vehicles entering and exiting the district stranded.
This disruption poses a significant challenge for tourists traveling to and from the region, as the Mahakali Highway is a vital artery for access to popular destinations in the area. The blockage may delay or cancel travel plans for many visitors, highlighting the ongoing challenges of maintaining infrastructure in Nepal’s rugged terrain.
Efforts to clear the debris have been underway since the morning, with an excavator from the Division Road Office in Baitadi Patan deployed to the site. However, large boulders that fell onto the road with the landslide have proven difficult to remove. According to Ganesh Bohara, a supervisor at the Division Road Office, a specialized excavator has been called in to break down the boulders. The road section will only be reopened once these obstacles are cleared.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable natural conditions in the region, which can impact both local residents and the flow of tourists. Travelers are advised to stay informed about road conditions and plan their journeys accordingly.
