Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Mr. Badri Prasad Pandey, emphasized that the newly proposed “Tourism Bill, 2081” is essential for comprehensive reforms in Nepal’s tourism sector. Presenting the proposal in the National Assembly, he underscored the critical role tourism plays in strengthening the national economy.
During Tuesday’s session of the National Assembly, Minister Pandey introduced the proposal for the consideration of the Tourism Bill, 2081. He highlighted that tourism is a key pillar for Nepal’s economic development, and that updated, inclusive, and coordinated legislation is necessary to modernize the sector and promote sustainable growth.

Strong Support from Lawmakers
Following the proposal, several National Assembly members voiced their support for the bill. Lawmakers including Dr. Anjan Shakya, Ganga Kumari Belbase, Kiran Babu Shrestha, Taraman Subba, Suresh Kumar Ale Magar, Gopi Bahadur Achhami, and Tulsa Kumari Dahal noted that Nepal, with its immense natural beauty and cultural richness, holds untapped potential for sustainable tourism. They emphasized that the tourism industry must contribute more significantly to the national economy and called for concrete mechanisms to ensure inclusive growth across provinces and local levels.
Many members stressed that sustainable development of tourism would not only create employment opportunities but also preserve Nepal’s natural and cultural heritage. They welcomed the bill’s vision to foster synergy between federal, provincial, and local governments for effective tourism promotion.

Coordination and Commitment
Responding to the lawmakers’ remarks, Minister Pandey reiterated that the bill lays a foundation for promoting tourism through structured coordination among all tiers of government. He stated that the proposed legislation would focus on unlocking Nepal’s vast potential especially in nature-based, cultural, and adventure tourism by implementing a holistic and modern tourism framework.
The Minister further assured that the government is committed to working closely with stakeholders to enhance tourism infrastructure, upgrade tourism services, and ensure that communities directly benefit from tourism activities.

Bill Unanimously Approved by Committee
Following the deliberation, the proposal to consider the bill was unanimously approved by the committee. National Assembly Chairperson Mr. Narayan Prasad Dahal announced that members interested in proposing amendments to the bill may submit their suggestions to the Bill Section of the assembly. Chairperson Dahal also informed the House that the next session of the National Assembly is scheduled to convene on Wednesday, Jestha 14 (May 28) at 1:15 PM.
