Tourist arrivals to Chitwan National Park and its buffer-zone community forests increased significantly in the last fiscal year compared to the previous year.
According to Abinash Thapa Magar, Information Officer at Chitwan National Park, a total of 272,923 tourists visited the area in the fiscal year 2082/83, up from 231,329 visitors recorded in the previous fiscal year.
This represents an increase of 41,594 visitors, reflecting growing interest in Chitwan’s wildlife, biodiversity, and nature-based tourism.

More Than 111,000 Foreign Tourists Visit the Park
Of the total visitors, 22,883 tourists were from SAARC countries, while 88,665 visitors came from other countries.

Chitwan National Park remains one of Nepal’s most popular wildlife tourism destinations. Tourists visit the park to observe the greater one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, sloth bear, elephants, and a wide range of bird species.
The park’s diverse wildlife, forests, rivers, and safari experiences continue to attract both domestic and international visitors.

Chitwan National Park Collects Over Rs 276 Million from Ecotourism
The increase in tourist arrivals also contributed to higher revenue generation for the park. According to the park, it collected Rs 276.34 million in revenue from ecotourism during the last fiscal year.
In addition, the park collected Rs 310.16 million under various other revenue headings, including the sale of timber and firewood, non-timber forest products, fines, and other sources.
The growth in visitor numbers and revenue highlights the continued importance of Chitwan National Park and its surrounding community forests as major destinations for wildlife tourism and ecotourism in Nepal.
