As part of the annual Indra Jatra celebrations, a significant tradition was observed once again this year. On Sunday morning, by the auspicious timing of the festival, the ceremonial raising of the lingo—a symbolic pole adorned with the Indra flag—was carried out in front of Hanumandhoka Durbar Square.
A notable aspect of this year’s event was the presence of the “Sky Horse,” a traditional ceremonial horse brought in as a symbol of the king’s horse. This practice, which signifies the continuation of a centuries-old tradition, remains a prominent feature of the festival.
The presence of the Sky Horse during the lingo raising is a nod to historical customs and has been preserved as part of the annual celebration.
Indra Jatra, a festival dedicated to Lord Indra, the god of rain, is renowned for its vibrant celebrations and traditional rituals, which include various processions and cultural performances throughout Kathmandu.
