Traffic on the Beni-Darbang road, a crucial transportation route in western Myagdi, has resumed after a 10-day obstruction caused by a landslide. The landslide, which occurred on July 12, blocked the 24-kilometer road section at Faparkhet on the border of Beni Municipality-4 and Mangala Rural Municipality-2. This road is a vital lifeline for the region, connecting Dhaulagiri, Malika, and Mangala rural municipalities with the district headquarters in Beni.
The road’s closure led to significant disruptions in movement, affecting the transportation of food items, construction materials, and patients needing medical attention. Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal confirmed that the road was reopened on Sunday evening after the landslide debris was cleared. However, he warned that risks remain in the affected road section.
Mangala Rural Municipality Chair Sata Prasad Roka highlighted the need for a contingency budget to develop alternative routes and ensure that such disruptions do not impact passengers in the future. The landslide, which occurred approximately 200 meters above the road and spanned 150 meters in width, is considered a major challenge for maintaining this critical route.
The resumption of traffic on the Beni-Darbang road is expected to facilitate smoother movement for locals and tourists alike, supporting the region’s tourism industry and easing transportation for residents.
