Tragic Drowning Incident at Rara Lake

A tragic incident occurred today at Rara Lake, where a 21-year-old man drowned while swimming. The deceased, identified as Shishirjung Rawal, was from Chhayanath Rara Municipality-5.

According to local police, Rawal was swimming in the eastern part of Rara Lake when he drowned. He had been working as a laborer on the construction of a cycle lane along the lake’s shore. The incident took place as Rawal and four of his friends were swimming in the lake on their way home.

Narendra Rawal, the victim’s uncle, reported that Shishirjung was enjoying a swim with his friends when the unfortunate accident happened. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Nepalese Army’s Hanuman Dhwaj Gulma unit rushed to the site with two boats.

Additional police teams from Rara Airport and the District Police Office arrived to assist in the recovery operation. The rescue teams were able to retrieve Rawal’s body from the lake.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Thapa from the Mugu District Police Office stated that after completing the necessary legal procedures, the body has been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.

This incident has cast a pall over the local community, highlighting the need for increased safety measures for those visiting and working around Rara Lake, a popular destination known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities.
