As part of the USAID Biodiversity Program, an initiative titled ‘Engagement of Trekking Tourism Entrepreneurs in Biodiversity Conservation’ is being conducted to support biodiversity conservation through the promotion of sustainable practices in trekking and mountain tourism.
The project aims to train at least 300 licensed trekking guides and porters—200 from Kathmandu and 100 from Pokhara—on Environmentally Sustainable Tourism Practices and Tourism-Related Environmental Crimes. This training will help establish these individuals as Biodiversity Conservation Ambassadors through a one-day awareness program.
Trekking companies interested in participating in their licensed trekking guides and porters in this training are requested to submit a recommendation letter from the trekking agency along with a copy of the trekking guide and porter guide’s license. Applications must be submitted in person at the association’s secretariat or via email to [email protected] by 25th Shrawan 2081 (9 August 2024). Late submissions will not be considered.
The list of selected participants will be announced on Sunday, 27th Shrawan 2081 (11 August 2024) on the association’s notice board and Facebook page. Only those listed will be allowed to attend the training.
The one-day training sessions will be held at Hotel Manang, Thamel, with a capacity of 50 participants per day. Special priority will be given to women, tribal, Dalit, and backward classes. The fourth day of training in Kathmandu will exclusively include licensed female trekking guides and porters. Lunch and tea biscuits will be provided during the training.
