Turkish Airlines continues to make significant strides in sustainable aviation by financing two A321NEO aircraft, recognized for their outstanding environmental performance, using an innovative multicurrency JOLCO (Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option) structure. This financing model includes a sustainability-linked loan facility, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to environmental goals.
The facility, structured by Societe Generale, ties Turkish Airlines’ financing costs to its progress in meeting Sustainability Performance Targets (SPTs). These targets are centered around reducing the carbon intensity of its fleet, in line with international aviation standards.
Turkish Airlines has distinguished itself within the aviation industry by securing some of the lowest financing costs through award-winning and first-of-its-kind financial models. The airline’s commitment to sustainable practices has earned it numerous accolades, including being named the “Most Sustainable Flag Carrier Airline” by World Finance for three consecutive years.
Assoc. Prof. Murat Şeker, Member of the Board, Executive Committee, and Chief Financial Officer of Turkish Airlines, expressed his pride in integrating sustainability into the company’s aircraft financing strategy. “We are glad to integrate our sustainability endeavors into aircraft finance, an area where our success is consistently recognized by awards from world-renowned organizations. We are confident that this integration will foster our sustainable growth and fleet renewal strategy while contributing to our goal of becoming a carbon-neutral airline by 2050,” he stated.
Turkish Airlines’ aircraft financing team has received global recognition for achieving some of the lowest financing costs in the industry. Over the past decade, the airline has garnered over 30 international awards for its innovative financing models, raising approximately $16 billion. Prestigious organizations such as Global Transport Finance, Airline Economics, Airfinance Journal, and Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Türkiye have consistently acknowledged the airline’s excellence in this field.
With this new milestone, Turkish Airlines continues to lead in both innovative financing and sustainability, positioning itself as a global frontrunner in the aviation industry’s push toward greener practices.
