Twelve-Year She Mela Begins at Shey Gompa in Dolpa

The 67th She Mela, held every twelve years, has commenced at Shey Gompa in Saldang, Shey-Phoksundo Rural Municipality-3, located in the northern region of Dolpa. The event is being celebrated under the theme “Vision of Shey Ribo Dugdra, Attaining World Peace,” as informed by Pema Wangchen Gurung, Vice-Chairperson of the Rural Municipality and Coordinator of the Publicity Subcommittee.

This significant festival, held once every twelve years, aims to promote global peace while showcasing Dolpa’s natural beauty, religious significance, and cultural identity. Organizers believe the event will help foster social unity and harmony, and also serve as a platform to highlight Dolpa’s historical, natural, and archaeological heritage to the world.

The festival is dedicated to honoring Tapasvi Duptop Singe Yishe, a disciple of Ribo Dugdra’s religious door opener, Jigten Gonpo Rinchen Pal. Gurung emphasized that the event provides a deep insight into the spiritual essence of Dolpo.

The festival has attracted notable attendees, including former Minister and Federal MP for Dolpa, Dhan Bahadur Budha, renowned Dr. Sanduk Ruit, and prominent Buddhist lamas. The four-day event will continue to bring together people from various walks of life to celebrate the unique cultural heritage of Dolpa.
