Powerful Typhoon Shanshan made landfall in Kagoshima Prefecture in southwestern Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced on Thursday. This marks the 10th typhoon of the year, classified as “very strong,” as it moves northward at approximately 15 kilometers per hour near Satsumasendai City.
As of 8:00 a.m. local time, the typhoon’s position was recorded at 31.55 degrees north latitude and 130.05 degrees east longitude, with its speed remaining steady at 15 kilometers per hour. The JMA reported that the central pressure of the typhoon is holding at 935 hPa, and the intensity of wind speeds and affected regions has not significantly changed.
Southern Kyushu is already experiencing record-breaking rainfall due to the typhoon. In response, the JMA has issued special warnings across Kagoshima Prefecture for violent winds, high waves, and storm surges.
