UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel Urges Against Extravagance During Festivals

General Secretary of the CPN-UML, Shankar Pokharel, has advised against turning festivals into extravagant affairs. Speaking at an event titled “Teej for Social Transformation,” organized by the Central Women’s Department of the Nepal Intellectual Council in Kathmandu today, Pokharel emphasized the importance of understanding the impact of spending on the economy.

“Spending in itself is not inherently bad. However, we need to focus on what actions strengthen the economy and what weakens it,” Pokharel stated, highlighting the need to appreciate the significance of Nepal’s unique cultural heritage.

He further noted that the Teej festival can be used as a medium to inspire awareness and promote positive change in society. According to him, the proper dissemination of ideas during festivals like Teej can play a crucial role in societal transformation. He also emphasized that the foundation of Nepali culture lies in the unity amidst the diversity of Nepali society. The event was attended by party standing committee members Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, Sujita Shakya, and others.
