USAID Roadshow Concludes in Kirtipur, Celebrating Longstanding Partnership and Support for Nepal’s Development and Tourism

The USAID roadshow, which began two weeks ago in Lumbini Province, concluded today in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Organized by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the roadshow showcased a musical performance along with various informative and entertaining activities. These events were designed to educate the public about the diverse activities, projects, and programs that USAID has funded in Nepal over the past 63 years.

The roadshow kicked off in Banganga, Kapilvastu district on July 3, and made its way through several locations including Butwal, Lamahi in Dang district, Kohalpur, Nepalgunj in Banke district, Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, Jawalakhel in Lalitpur. Each stop aimed to engage local communities, providing insights into the longstanding partnership between Nepal and USAID.

In Kirtipur, the final event featured performances by artists such as Rima Bishwokarma, Rajan Raj Shiwakoti, Mala Waiba, and her team. These performances captivated audiences of all ages. Additionally, interactive activities like ‘spin the wheel’, ‘ring toss’, and quizzes were especially popular among the youth, creating a lively and educational atmosphere.

This roadshow was the first of its kind in Nepal, aiming to highlight the significant support that USAID has provided to the country. Over the past 63 years, USAID has been involved in funding a range of national and local projects across five key sectors: health, education, democracy, rights and governance, economic growth, and environment and resilience.

Since 2000, USAID has contributed over one and a half billion US dollars (more than NPR 196 billion) towards Nepal’s development. This support has been directed towards infrastructure, agriculture, women’s and girls’ empowerment, humanitarian aid, good governance, civil society, and business development. The substantial grant assistance has played a pivotal role in improving Nepal’s socio-economic conditions.

The contributions from the American people, facilitated through USAID, have significantly boosted Nepal’s prosperity. In 2023 alone, USAID’s programs directly benefited over a million Nepali women in sectors such as health, education, and economic growth. Additionally, around five million women were indirectly benefited through various other initiatives.

The roadshow not only underscored the transformative impact of USAID’s contributions but also highlighted the critical role of tourism in Nepal’s development. By showcasing local culture, engaging with communities, and fostering international cooperation, events like this roadshow promote Nepal as a vibrant and inviting tourist destination.

USAID’s continued support and enthusiastic participation in the roadshow emphasize the strong and enduring partnership between Nepal and the United States. This partnership marks a shared commitment to advancing Nepal’s journey towards prosperity and sustainable development.
