Renowned Ukrainian mountaineer Valentyn Sypavin successfully summited Mount Everest on Sunday morning, marking his ninth ascent of the world’s highest peak and completing his third 8,000-metre mountain of the current spring climbing season.
According to Lakpa Sherpa, Expedition Leader and Managing Director of 8K Expeditions, Valentyn reached the summit of Mt. Everest (8,848.86m) at around 8:15 am alongside his climbing guide, Tashi Sherpa, widely known as “Hero Tashi,” and other climbers from the 8K Expeditions team. The successful ascent comes after Valentyn had already climbed Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Makalu earlier this season, further demonstrating his remarkable endurance and strength in high-altitude mountaineering.
Preparing for Historic Everest-Lhotse Traverse
Following his Everest summit, Valentyn is now preparing for another major challenge, the Everest-Lhotse traverse. If successful, it will mark the fifth time he has completed the demanding traverse between the world’s highest mountain and the fourth-highest peak, Mt. Lhotse (8,516m).
Pemba Sherpa, Chairman of 8K Expeditions, confirmed that Valentyn will attempt the Lhotse summit after descending from Everest and recovering at higher camps. The Everest-Lhotse traverse is regarded as one of the most technically difficult and physically exhausting achievements in Himalayan climbing, requiring exceptional endurance, speed, and acclimatization.
One of the World’s Most Accomplished Climbers
At 42 years old, Valentyn Sypavin is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished high-altitude climbers in the world. He is the owner of the Ukrainian adventure company Alpomania and has successfully climbed several major peaks, including K2 and multiple Himalayan giants.
Beyond mountaineering, Valentyn also holds a Guinness World Record for the highest altitude kayaking, achieved at an elevation of 6,370 metres in Chile’s Atacama region. He is also a former vice-champion of the Ice Climbing World Cup, reflecting his versatility across multiple extreme sports disciplines.

This spring season has witnessed significant activity on Mt. Everest, with climbers from around the world taking advantage of favorable weather windows for summit attempts. Expedition organizers say Valentyn’s achievement further highlights the growing trend of elite climbers attempting multiple 8,000-metre peaks within a single season.
