Assistant Head Constable Anita Karki of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has created history by successfully summiting Mount Everest (8,848.86m), becoming the first female APF personnel to reach the world’s highest peak. She reached the summit at 10:20 am on Sunday, May 17, marking a proud and historic moment for Nepal’s security forces and women in mountaineering.
According to APF officials, Karki is the third member of the Armed Police Force to successfully climb Everest, but the first woman from the organization to achieve this milestone. Her accomplishment has been described as a groundbreaking moment that highlights the growing role of women in Nepal’s security and adventure sports sectors.
From National Athlete to Everest Summiteer
Anita Karki is not only a dedicated security personnel but also a professional athlete representing APF in national sports competitions. She is actively involved in athletics, physical fitness, and fencing, where she has earned recognition as one of Nepal’s strong competitive players.
Born in Gokulganga Rural Municipality-1, Chuchure of Ramechhap district, Karki has consistently demonstrated exceptional physical endurance, discipline, and determination. Her sporting background and fitness training played a key role in preparing her for the extreme challenges of high-altitude mountaineering. Officials from the Armed Police Force stated that her success on Everest is a direct reflection of her stamina and commitment developed through years of sports training and professional discipline within the force.
Strong Mountaineering Background and Training
Karki is trained in mountain rescue and high-altitude operations at the APF Mountain Rescue Training School. She has previously completed successful ascents of Chulu Far East and Lobuche Peak in the Manang region, building her experience before attempting Everest.
Her Everest expedition was supported by experienced climbing guide Nima Sange Sherpa, who accompanied her during the final summit push. She was part of the 8K Expeditions team led by Lakpa Sherpa. APF spokesperson DSP Shailendra Thapa confirmed that Karki reached the summit successfully and is now safely descending after completing the historic climb.
APF’s Growing Legacy in Everest Climbing
Anita Karki has now become the third Armed Police Force personnel to summit Everest. The first APF climber to achieve this feat was Inspector Suraj Paudel, who successfully climbed Everest on Jestha 7, 2081. The second was Assistant Sub-Inspector Danta Bahadur Chhantyal, who reached the summit on Jestha 5, 2082.
With Karki’s achievement, APF Nepal has further strengthened its presence in high-altitude mountaineering, showcasing the organization’s expanding capabilities beyond security operations. Officials said her success will encourage more participation of women within the force in adventure sports and mountaineering activities.

Beyond her professional role, Karki is also a national fencing player who has represented APF Club in several competitions, winning medals in women’s epee events at national championships. Her ability to excel in both combat sports and extreme mountaineering has drawn widespread admiration.
