Vistara’s Final Flight Marks Major Shift in Indian Aviation: Merges with Air India

Vistara, India’s third-largest airline, is scheduled to operate its final flight on November 11, marking the end of its independent operations. Beginning November 12, Vistara will officially merge with Air India, with all future flights managed under the Air India brand. Ticket bookings for these flights will now be available exclusively through Air India’s website.

The merger agreement between Air India and Vistara was signed in November 2022, and it received regulatory approval from India’s Competition Commission (CCI) in September 2023. Following the merger, the Air India Group will become India’s second-largest domestic airline in terms of market share, trailing only Indigo, and it will stand as the country’s largest international airline.

This merger also positions Air India as India’s only airline group to offer both full-service and low-cost options. Post-merger, Air India will operate a fleet of 218 wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, servicing 38 international and 52 domestic destinations.

Established in 2013, Vistara rapidly became one of India’s leading full-service airlines, offering international flights across East-Central Asia and Europe. The merger marks the end of Vistara’s independent journey but strengthens Air India’s position in the competitive airline industry.
