The Vyas Municipality of Tanahun has decided to propose a project focused on the conservation and development of the historic Tanahunsur area under the Chief Minister’s Promotion Program. This decision was made during a meeting of the municipal executive committee chaired by Mayor Baikuntha Neupane.
Tanahunsur is known for its breathtaking views of the Himalayan range, the Mahabharat mountain range, Kalestiphat, Chudiphat, and various locations in Gorkha and Kaski districts. Residents believe that the proposed project will play a significant role in promoting both domestic and international tourism.
The name Tanahunsur is derived from the Sanskrit word “Tritung,” meaning three peaks, as the area is formed by three prominent peaks. Over time, the name evolved into Tanahunsur.
Historically, King Manimukunda Sen of Palpa sent his eldest son, Bhringisen, to govern Tanahun. For 230 years, eight generations of Sen dynasty kings ruled from Tanahunsur. The remnants of the Sen dynasty palace can still be seen in the area today.
Visitors to Tanahunsur can explore historical artifacts such as cannons, the royal palace, weapons, a speech podium known as Gaddi Chautaro, the Kalika Temple, and the queen’s bathing well, all from the era when the Sen dynasty ruled the region.
Tanahunsur is accessible by public transportation, located 17 kilometers from Damauli via Ghasikuwa.
