The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has predicted the likelihood of rain in various parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday. However, the department has assured that there is no immediate threat of continuous heavy rainfall, as reported by Meteorologist Govinda Jha.
According to Jha, light to moderate rain is expected in some parts of Koshi Province, as well as in the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces. “There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in certain areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces,” he mentioned. “However, it will not be like the persistent rain experienced last week, which caused concern among the general public. There is no need to panic.”
The department’s latest three-day weather bulletin, issued this evening, indicates that monsoon winds and a low-pressure system over northeastern India, particularly in Assam and surrounding areas, are having a partial impact on Nepal’s weather.
Currently, partial to moderate cloud cover is observed in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, while the rest of the country remains mostly clear. Light rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is occurring in one or two locations within Koshi Province.
Over the next 24 hours, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces. Other provinces will experience partly cloudy to mostly clear conditions. Light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms, is likely in some parts of Koshi Province and a few areas in Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces, as well as isolated locations in other regions.
Additionally, there is a chance of heavy rainfall in one or two places within Koshi and Bagmati Provinces. The department has advised caution, noting that the rain could impact agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transport, and air travel. There is a risk of landslides, floods, and soil erosion in vulnerable areas, so necessary precautions should be taken to minimize potential damage.
The department urges people in these regions to remain vigilant and take safety measures to protect against possible natural hazards caused by the rain.
