Weather Update: Weak Monsoon Activity Observed Across Nepal

The monsoon system remains weak across the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. As per the latest updates, the monsoon trough is currently situated near the average position, indicating subdued monsoonal activity across Nepal.

Friday Morning Weather Conditions

On Friday morning, light and scattered rainfall was recorded in a few areas of Koshi Province and Madhesh Province. These showers were limited in intensity and geographical coverage, reflecting the ongoing weak influence of monsoonal winds.

Forecast for Friday Afternoon

The meteorological division has forecast generally cloudy conditions throughout the country on Friday afternoon. While most areas are expected to remain under mild cloud cover, some provinces may experience moderate weather events.

Specifically, the hilly regions of Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and Lumbini Province are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning in some places. A few areas in the remaining provinces, particularly in the hilly terrain, may also receive similar weather patterns.

Possibility of Heavy Rainfall in Select Areas

The Department has also warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two locations within the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces. These areas are likely to experience short bursts of intense rain, which may be accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Residents in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions, especially in landslide-prone areas, due to the potential impact of localized heavy downpours.

Friday Night Weather Outlook

As night falls, weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy over the hilly parts of the country, including Koshi Province. Other regions will likely experience partly cloudy skies.

According to the department’s forecast, there is a chance of light to moderate rainfall in a few areas of Koshi Province during the night. Isolated places in other provinces may also receive rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Windstorm Alert for Terai Regions

The Department has further predicted the possibility of windstorms in parts of the Terai region of Koshi Province and in some locations across Madhesh Province. These gusty winds, though not extreme, could affect daily activities and local travel. People in the affected areas are advised to stay cautious and secure loose items around their surroundings.

Advisory and Public Awareness

Given the variable and unstable weather conditions, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has advised the public to remain updated with the latest forecasts. While the overall monsoon influence remains weak at the moment, scattered rainfall and thunderstorm activity may still pose localized risks such as landslides, flash floods, and disruptions to travel or outdoor work, especially in the hilly regions.

Authorities and local governments are also urged to stay vigilant and ready to provide assistance in case of sudden weather changes, particularly in high-risk zones.

While Nepal is currently experiencing a lull in monsoonal activity, certain regions, especially the hilly areas of central and eastern Nepal, may still face episodes of rainfall and thunderstorm. With the monsoon trough remaining close to its average position, weather conditions are expected to be moderately active over the coming days. Continued monitoring and awareness are essential to ensure safety and preparedness during this dynamic monsoon season.
