Weekly Cultural Program Concludes in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward-8

Kathmandu Metropolitan City successfully concluded a weekly cultural program across seven different locations in Ward-8. This initiative, part of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Golden Plan under the Cultural Metropolitan framework, aims to promote cultural activities in various wards.

The program took place at Pashupati Bhuwaneswari Dabali, Ittapaka, Dathu Tole, Jayabageshwari Area, Nawaali Tole, Tilganga, and the Ghyampe Sattal in the Pashupati Area. According to Ashaman Sangat, Coordinator of the Heritage and Tourism Committee and Ward Chairman of Kathmandu-8, the program featured artists performing mainly at traditional platforms and rest houses (dabali and pati).

Sangat highlighted that Kathmandu is renowned worldwide for its rich cultural heritage, including art, language, festivals, fairs, and intangible heritage. He emphasized the city’s religious tolerance and high social relationships, which foster unity within the diversity of various festivals, ethnicities, traditions, and customs.

He also noted that the city’s recognition as one of the most scenic places globally is due to its vibrant history and ancient unique architectural styles. Embracing the importance of folk culture and traditional musical instruments, Sangat mentioned that these programs are crucial for cultural preservation.

The cultural program featured performances with traditional instruments such as dhimay baja, basuri, naykhi, dha: dhimay, pachima, khin, madal, nay khin, bhushya, taa chhimta, babucha, and chhusya. Additionally, there were presentations of traditional tunes like Mangal Dhun, Sayathari Baja, Yela Luwaya, Sitala, Jigu Tho Man, Jhangad, Dha: Baja, Pashupatinath, Lakhe, music compositions, and Lyamam Daju Mix compositions.

Local artists, dressed in traditional Newari attire, performed in the program. Around 75 artists participated, showcasing their cultural heritage and traditional customs.
