Western Disturbance Brings Cloudy Weather Across Nepal

The partial impact of a western disturbance has caused cloudy conditions across most parts of Nepal. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy today. On Monday, light rainfall is expected in the hilly regions, with snowfall likely in the Himalayan areas.

Meteorologist Binu Maharjan stated that currently, areas in Karnali, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati, and the eastern parts of Madhesh Province are experiencing generally cloudy weather, while Koshi and Sudurpaschim Provinces have partial cloud cover. Today, the hilly and Himalayan regions are expected to witness partly to generally cloudy weather, with light rain anticipated in some areas. Tonight, light snowfall is likely in some parts of the high hills and Himalayan regions of Koshi and Gandaki Provinces.

“Compared to today, the weather is expected to be more overcast on Monday, with higher chances of rainfall,” Maharjan explained. “Light rainfall is likely in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Additionally, light snowfall may occur in the high hills and Himalayan regions of Sudurpaschim and other provinces.”

The Meteorological Forecasting Division further indicated that the western disturbance’s impact will intensify on Monday and Tuesday, resulting in increased cloud cover and precipitation across the country.

Kathmandu experienced a slight increase in its minimum temperature today compared to Saturday. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Kathmandu recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2°C this morning, up from 5.9°C on Saturday.

Meteorologist Maharjan attributed the rise in minimum temperature to cloud cover over the city during the night. As a result, residents felt relatively less cold in the morning. On December 14, Kathmandu recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 2.5°C.

With the continued impact of the western disturbance, fluctuating temperatures and varying weather patterns are expected in the coming days.
