The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has celebrated the career of Frank Rainieri by presenting him with its Icon Award for his pioneering work in tourism development in the Dominican Republic. The Icon recipient’s efforts have fundamentally shaped the Dominican Republic’s reputation as an influential tourist destination, especially in respect of Punta Cana as an emerging international tourist hotspot.
The award was presented to Rainieri at a VIP dinner event during the 26th Global Summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council, which took place in Malta on 8 October, 2026. More than 1,000 delegates including over 200 chief executive officers of leading international travel and tourism companies, ministers, and other government and industry representatives attended the Global Summit, which attracted wide media attention.
