Alaska Aviation Crisis: Small Plane with 10 Passengers Lost

A small commercial plane carrying 10 passengers went missing on Thursday in the northwestern U.S. state of Alaska. The plane is feared to have crashed. According to Alaska State Police, the plane, a Bering Air Caravan, took off from Unalakleet heading north at 4:00 PM local time with nine passengers and one pilot onboard.

The two cities, Unalakleet and Nome, are located about 146 miles (235 kilometers) apart in Norton Sound. Rescue teams are working to gather the plane’s last known information, according to officials in a statement.

This missing aircraft is the latest incident in a series of aviation accidents in the United States. On January 30, a U.S. military helicopter collided with a passenger plane near the capital, Washington, killing all 67 passengers onboard. In another incident, a medical plane crashed in a busy area of Philadelphia, killing seven people and injuring 19 others.
