The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted a three-day Diplomatic Retreat in Ilam from April 13 to 15, 2025. Set amidst the serene landscapes of Kanyam and nearby areas, the retreat aimed to deepen Nepal’s ties with the international community while highlighting the rich tourism potential of eastern Nepal.

The retreat welcomed 12 Ambassadors and Charge d’affaires along with their spouses representing countries such as Egypt, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Thailand, Australia, France, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Representatives from ICIMOD also participated. Led by Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, the diplomatic delegates explored Ilam’s tranquil environment, hill lifestyle, and vibrant cultural and natural diversity.

Participants visited the renowned Ilam Tea Gardens, witnessed the breathtaking sunrise from Shree Antu, and took part in a tea plucking competition offering them a personal connection to the area’s iconic tea heritage. Boating and fishing at the scenic Antu Pokhari added a touch of leisure to the immersive experience.

Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, stated, “Nepal is more than the Himalayas it is a vibrant blend of landscapes, cultures, and experiences. This retreat is part of our effort to spotlight hidden gems like Ilam. With Visit Koshi Year 2082 underway, it also supports the broader mission of promoting tourism in Koshi Province and across Nepal.”

This initiative reflects NTB’s strategic push to develop inclusive and regionally balanced tourism while expanding Nepal’s global outreach by engaging with the diplomatic corps and inviting the world to discover the nation’s hidden treasures.
