The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has expressed great happiness in participating in the 70th anniversary celebration of the first ascent of Mount Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak. The occasion served as a remarkable opportunity for the association to honor the pioneering Nepali climbers and to discuss strategies for promoting the Peak globally.

On April 24, 2025, a special ceremony organized by Samriddha Pahad at the Aloft Hotel in Kathmandu brought together prominent figures from Nepal’s Peak community. During the event, NMA President Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa honored the first three Nepali climbers who successfully reached the summit of the Kangchenjunga, along with the first Nepali woman to achieve this feat.

Mr. Ang Phurba Sherpa was recognized as the first Nepali to summit Peak Kangchenjunga, followed closely by Mr. Nima Dorje Sherpa and Mr. Pemba Chhiri Sherpa as the second and third climbers, respectively. Ms. Nima Jangmu Sherpa was also honored for becoming the first Nepali woman to conquer the iconic mountain, setting a historic milestone for Nepali women in mountaineering.

Continuing the celebration, on April 25, 2025, the British Embassy in Kathmandu hosted a special program at its premises. During the event, NMA President Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa delivered a keynote message emphasizing the need to promote Peak Kangchenjunga to further strengthen Nepal’s Peak tourism sector.

He urged the international community to support Nepal’s initiatives to highlight the country’s mountaineering achievements and natural beauty on a global stage.
