Nepal Rastra Bank Publishes Daily Foreign Exchange Rates: USD at NPR 137.42 for Sale

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of the country, has announced the foreign exchange rates applicable for today. The official exchange rates for several major international currencies have been fixed, providing guidance to commercial banks and financial institutions across the nation.

US Dollar Continues to Hold Steady

According to NRB, the buying rate for one US Dollar stands at NPR 136.82, while the selling rate is NPR 137.42. The US dollar remains one of the most traded and influential currencies in Nepal’s foreign exchange market, primarily due to remittances and trade settlements.

Euro and Pound Sterling Rates Set

The Euro, another major currency, has been pegged at NPR 160.54 for buying and NPR 161.24 for selling. Similarly, the British Pound Sterling is set at NPR 185.79 for buying and NPR 186.61 for selling. These rates suggest a slight fluctuation compared to previous days, reflecting ongoing changes in the international financial markets and demand within Nepal.

Exchange Rates for Major Western Currencies

Other significant Western currencies also saw updated exchange rates:

  • Swiss Franc: Buying at NPR 171.66, Selling at NPR 172.41
  • Australian Dollar: Buying at NPR 89.54, Selling at NPR 89.93
  • Canadian Dollar: Buying at NPR 100.25, Selling at NPR 100.69

These currencies are commonly used by travelers, business people, and Nepali diaspora communities abroad.

Asian Currencies: Yen, Yuan, and Others

The exchange rate for Japanese Yen (for 10 units) is NPR 9.34 (buying) and NPR 9.38 (selling). Meanwhile, the Chinese Yuan is trading at NPR 19.07 (buying) and NPR 19.16 (selling).

Other prominent Asian currencies:

  • Thai Baht: Buying at NPR 4.21, Selling at NPR 4.23

  • Malaysian Ringgit: Buying at NPR 32.26, Selling at NPR 32.40
  • South Korean Won (per 100 units): Buying at NPR 9.99, Selling at NPR 10.03

These currencies are especially relevant in Nepal due to the large number of Nepali migrant workers in Gulf and Asian nations.

Scandinavian and Other Currency Rates

Nepal Rastra Bank has also set rates for less commonly traded currencies:

  • Swedish Krona: Buying at NPR 14.38, Selling at NPR 14.44
  • Danish Krone: Buying at NPR 21.52, Selling at NPR 21.61
  • Hong Kong Dollar: Buying at NPR 17.43, Selling at NPR 17.51

High-Value Gulf Currencies

Some of the most expensive currencies against the Nepali Rupee remain the Middle Eastern currencies:

  • Kuwaiti Dinar: Buying at NPR 447.87, Selling at NPR 449.83
  • Bahraini Dinar: Buying at NPR 362.95, Selling at NPR 364.54
  • Omani Riyal: Buying at NPR 355.59, Selling at NPR 356.94

These rates are particularly significant for financial institutions that handle remittances from Gulf nations, which are a major source of foreign income for Nepal.

Indian Rupee Fixed Against Nepali Rupee

Unlike other currencies, the exchange rate between the Nepali Rupee and the Indian Rupee (INR) is controlled and fixed. As of today, INR 100 is bought at NPR 160.00 and sold at NPR 160.15. This fixed rate is crucial for cross-border trade and travel between Nepal and India, given the open border and deep economic ties.

Exchange Rates Subject to Change

NRB has clarified that today’s exchange rates are subject to revision at any time, depending on market conditions. The central bank also noted that the exchange rates set by commercial banks may differ slightly, and the most updated rates can be found on the official NRB website.
