Thai AirAsia Restores Vital Bangkok–Bhairahawa Air Link

Thai AirAsia has officially resumed its Bangkok–Bhairahawa–Bangkok flights starting today, marking the airline’s return to Nepal’s only operational international airport outside Kathmandu.

The inaugural flight, an Airbus A320 aircraft, landed at Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) at 12:15 PM today, carrying 17 passengers from Bangkok, according to the airport’s Information Officer Binod Singh Rawat.

162 Passengers Depart for Bangkok

Following a short turnaround, the same aircraft departed for Bangkok at 1:15 PM, carrying 162 passengers, Rawat confirmed. The successful operation of the flight has been welcomed by local authorities and tourism stakeholders as a positive sign for the region’s international connectivity.

Twice-Weekly Regular Flights

Thai AirAsia has been granted permission to operate two flights a week on the Bangkok–Bhairahawa–Bangkok route. Regular flights will be conducted every Sunday and Wednesday, according to airport officials.

Boost to Tourism and Connectivity

The resumption of Thai AirAsia flights is expected to enhance air connectivity between Nepal and Thailand and promote tourism in the Lumbini region, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. Tourism entrepreneurs have expressed hope that the revival of international flights will help attract more foreign visitors and support the economic revival of Bhairahawa and surrounding areas.
