Authorities Urge Caution as Rain and Snow Affect High Himalayan Regions

The District Administration Office of Sankhuwasabha has urged trekkers to exercise caution while traveling in the high Himalayan regions as rain and snowfall continue to affect areas including Makalu Base Camp. Authorities emphasized the importance of preparedness amid unpredictable weather conditions.

Advisory for Trekkers

Chief District Officer (CDO) Srijana Thapaliya stated that rainfall and snowfall have been ongoing in the higher altitudes since yesterday morning. The administration has advised all tourists to follow official weather updates issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, gather sufficient information about their destinations, and take necessary precautions while trekking in the region.

Given the likelihood of additional snowfall, local police have also urged travelers to remain alert and cautious, particularly in the vicinity of Makalu Base Camp and surrounding high-altitude trekking routes.

Tourist Presence in the Region

According to CDO Thapaliya, about 70 foreign tourists are currently at Makalu Base Camp, along with 60–70 Nepali mountaineers. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of all trekkers and climbers in the high Himalayan zones.

The advisory underscores the need for preparedness in Nepal’s remote mountainous regions, where sudden weather changes can pose significant risks to trekkers and mountaineers. Travelers are encouraged to plan carefully, stay informed, and heed official instructions to avoid potential hazards.
